Hello Everyone! My name is René Rodriguez-Huerta. I am the seminarian who has been assigned to St. Therese of the Little Flower for the 2021-2022 Academic School year.
As a way of introduction, here is a little bit about myself. I come from a family of five from the small town of Elko, NV. I and my two siblings are second generation Latinos who had the great privilege to be raised in the United States. Growing up, I went to public school and succeeded in graduating from high school in 2013. During my school education, I was active in many of the social groups and even joined the High School Band. I studied music, playing tenor saxophone for three of my four school years. Growing up, the parish has always been pretty central in my life and in that of my family. Youth group was something I really enjoyed being a part of growing up, as well as serving Mass.
I began my studies in the seminary in the fall of 2015. I attended Mt. Angel Seminary in Mount Angel, Oregon and as part of the seminary formation, I studied philosophy for four years. After completing my degrees in both Philosophy and Literature at Mt. Angel, I was sent to St. John’s Seminary in Camarillo, California to begin my studies in theology. It has been a huge blessing to study for the Diocese of Reno and get to know the people that have made the journey possible.
I am currently in my internship/pastoral year of theology and have now finished six years (going on seven) in the seminary formation, and have just over two years before priestly ordination.
Thanks for reading! I am thrilled to be helping at the parish, and hope to meet you all soon enough! Know of my continued prayers for the parish of Little Flower and the Diocese of Reno, and please don’t forget to keep me in your prayers as well!
